The Tri-City museums give interesting opportunities of learning the history of the city during cold or rainy days.

They offer numerous highlights, for example, the ‘Doomsday’ painting (one of the most famous pictures in the world) in the National Museum is the window to the medieval spirituality and a chance to reflect on the final sense of life. The collections at the Central Maritime Museum will take you to the rich world of life on sea. If you visit the ORP ‘Błyskawica’ destroyer, you will come back to the dramatic times of the 2nd World War. Visiting the TriCity’s museums is an excellent development of school education and the necessary supplement to sightseeing the TriCity in the summer season.

‘Dar Pomorza’ (Gift of the Pomerania Region’)

This beautiful S.V. has been a symbol of the Polish connections to the sea for years. The unit was bought for the social offerings in 1929. A dozen or so trainees from the Maritime School had their sailing period of service on aboard this frigate. In the years 1934-1935 the sailing ship circumnavigated the world, and succeeded in prestigious international regattas. The sightseeing route leads across the twin deck, engine room, sails warehouse, wardroom, commanding officer’s quarters, navigation room, kitchen/galley, and upper decks. The exhibition on the history of the ship will give other valuable information.

ORP ‘Błyskawica’ (Warship of the Polish Republic ‘Lightning’)

It is one of the most famous Polish warships, which took part in many difficult marine operations during the Second World War. The destroyer participated with others in the Norwegian campaign, the British army evacuation from Dunkerque and cover for landing operations in Northern Africa and Normandy campaigns. During its warfare activities the ‘Błyskawica’ sailed 148.000 sea miles, escorted 83 convoys, undertook 108 patrols and shot down 4 combat aircrafts. The sightseeing route will bring forth the history, armament and the maritime life of the crew of this unusual unit.

Amber Museum in Gdańsk

The visit to the new museum in Gdańsk gives a close insight into all amber aspects. In the historic interior of the Pre-Gate in the Długa Street, the issues of mining the raw materials, the development of amber routes and the application of amber in daily life, art and medicine have been explored. You can see interesting examples of the amber art there. An amazing exhibit is the Amber Nightingale – the award granted during the Sopot International Song Competitions. The collection of inclusions is also worth seeing – pieces of amber with melted fragments of plants and animals. Another interesting addition to the amber exhibition is the visit to the Torture House – in this part of the Museum you may explore the ancient methods of investigation applied in Gdańsk.

KL Stutthof – place of torment and suffering

KL Stutthof Concentration Camp absolutely can not be treated as a tourist attraction – this is a place of suffering of thousands of people where people dealt this fate to people…
A visit to the camp, however, is needed to understand the complications of European history. And understanding gives hope to avoid similar mistakes in the future…

Museum of World War II

The location of the Museum of the Second World War was not chosen by accident – Gdansk is considered to be a symbol of the outbreak of this bloodiest conflict in the history of mankind.
The exhibitions show the path to this tragedy, the suffering of the defenseless civil population and the effects of this war that have been lasting for many later decades.
A separate exhibition was devoted to the youngest tourists – in residential rooms from different stages of the conflict you can capture the impact of the war on the life of the Warsaw family.
The museum building thanks to its bold and iconic architecture quickly became a symbol of modern Gdańsk.
