Gdańsk definitely deserves to be called the pearl of Gothic architecture. The sacral construction from the Gothic times recreates the climate of late Middle Ages. Remember that the St. Mary’s Church is the largest brick temple in the world. When visiting the churches of Gdańsk, you will see outstanding works of art, for example the figure of Gdańsk Madonna, a grand astronomic clock (St. Mary’s Church), the famous organs (the Oliwska Cathedral) or the great amber monstrance (St. Bridget’s Church). St Mary’s Church

The biggest brick church in the world. It is hard to imagine a visit to Gdańsk without a visit the St Mary’s Church. Tourists are surprised with its size and accumulation of unusual monuments and works of art such as the Astronomical Clock, a magnificent sculpture of Madonna of Gdańsk, the main altar by Michael of Augsburg and much more. One can view the panorama of the city from the church’s tower.

The Cathedral in Oliwa

This magnificent historical monument of the sacred architecture where the precious works of art have accumulated. It is the funeral place of the Pomeranian princesses, often called the Kashubian Wawel. It is worth take a close look at the baroque main altar, the Holy Trinity altar, the Kos family tombstone and many other valuable works of art. Unforgettable sensations will be brought by the concerts featured on the famous organ built in the mid-XVIIIth century.

St Bridget’s Church

This place of worship played an important role in the development of the Solidarity opposition. The Gothic interiors are filled with numerous plaques commemorating difficult times in the history of Poland. A visit to this church is a great lesson in the most recent era of Polish history; it ensures aesthetical sensation as it is famous for realizing the most ambitious artistic undertakings. The creation of a beautiful amber monstrance was received with great enthusiasm, no smaller than the one accompanying the building of the amber altar. Both projects are made by Mariusz Drapikowski – one of the most outstanding Polish amber craftsmen.

St Nicholas Church

The Sightseeing of the church will bring forth the history of the Dominican convent, present in Gdańsk since the XIIIth century. The monks began the tradition of the annual St Dominic’s Fair – an event famous far beyond the country’s borders. The interiors of St Nicholas Church are a surprise with the wealth of the valuable sculptures, altars, and paintings. The baroque main altar, the painting of Mother of God in Pain, the epitaphs, the font – these are just a few of the art masterpieces which are worth seeing.

Holy Trinity Church

In this the second biggest place of worship in Gdańsk the reformation in Gdańsk began in the XVIth century. One will find in the church: a monumental pulpit, precious epitaphs, a Gothic crucifix, and other interesting objects. St Anna’s Chapel next to the church also deserves close attention. The Academic Grammar School located in the post-Franciscan monastery offered a very high level of education throughout the centuries. Since the mid-XIXth century the building has fulfilled the functions of a museum. We suggest combining the sightseeing of the church with a visit to the National Museum.
